John,

Barbara and her colleagues made history by including a repeal of the Hyde Amendment as part of the Omnibus spending package that will soon pass the House.

The Hyde Amendment has barred the use of federal funds for abortion care for decades, and now the House is well on its way to repealing this cruel, dangerous ban by including it in a spending package for the first time in decades.

This is a historic step for reproductive justice, but the work is not done yet. Add your name to demand the Senate follow through and repeal the Hyde Amendment: [[link removed]?]

REPEAL HYDE [[link removed]?]

Here’s how we got here:

The Hyde Amendment received its name after the anti-abortion representative who first introduced it in 1976, Rep. Henry Hyde.

Since then, the amendment has been used to crack down on safe, legal abortions by blocking Medicaid funding from being used for abortion care. This has disproportionately hurt low-income people and people of color seeking abortion services.

Barbara has been an outspoken advocate for repealing Hyde for years. Finally, the tides are turning toward justice. The inclusion of a Hyde Amendment repeal in the spending deal is the most significant development in decades, but there is still work to do.

Abortion care should be available to all — not only those who are able to afford it. Take a stand for reproductive justice by demanding the Senate follow the House’s footsteps and act to repeal the Hyde Amendment for good. [[link removed]?]

Thank you for speaking up on this critical issue.
