John,
56 years ago today, President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law.
When he signed the legislation, President Johnson said that “the vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice...”
And he was right. Time and time again, the American people have demanded change at the ballot box - whether it's fighting for civil rights, economic equality, a just climate, or a government that reflects the diversity of our nation.
But as the power of the vote has grown stronger and more undeniable, so have the forces trying to take us back. Just as segregationists fought the Voting Rights Act, Republicans in State Legislatures across the country have introduced voter suppression bills to keep people from exercising their right to vote.
We need to fight voter suppression with everything we’ve got. That’s why CADEM launched our own Voter Protection Team to ensure that voters in all corners of our state have the ability to fairly and equally exercise their right to vote.
John, can you chip in $10 today to our voter protection fund? Each and every dollar donated funds critical work to fight voter suppression and get out the vote in 2022 and beyond.
