Here’s the thing about the Filibuster, team — it blocks progress.
Its history begins with one Senator in the 1840s trying to keep power in the hands of slave-holding states. And it didn’t end there; the Filibuster has long been used as a tool to halt civil rights progress. Barack Obama himself called it a “Jim Crow relic.”
Today, Republicans are using the Filibuster to obstruct the right to vote. The For the People Act is an essential piece of voting rights legislation that would protect voting rights nationwide.
But Mitch McConnell and his Republican colleagues know what happens when more Americans vote: Republicans lose. And by blocking the For the People Act, they’re specifically targeting Black and Brown Americans from getting to the polls.
