Friend --
Today marks the 56th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It’s one of our nation’s most significant civil rights achievements -- but 56 years later, here we are, still fighting to protect the fundamental right to vote for
all Americans.
Under the Voting Rights Act, certain states and counties with a history of discrimination had to receive federal approval for new voting laws -- but since the Supreme Court did away with that requirement in 2013,
lawmakers nationwide have been relentlessly attacking voting rights.
Congress has the power to stop this from continuing with the John Lewis Voting Rights Act -- which is why Antonio proudly voted to pass it. With so many voter restriction laws coming about, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act would protect voters by preventing discriminatory voting laws from being implemented.
If we don’t pass this soon, state legislatures across the entire country will continue their attempts to undermine our democracy by tarnishing our system of free and fair elections.
Our right to vote is on the line, and anti-voter laws are targeting our most vulnerable communities. It’s time for Congress to put an end to these anti-democratic policies. Please sign on to urge Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act immediately.
Our right to vote is critical to the foundation of what makes us a democracy -- but for too long we’ve seen lawmakers on
every level working to undermine that very right.
This year alone, 18 state legislatures have enacted over 30 laws that limit access to voting. This wave of restrictions on voting is some of the most aggressive since the original passing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.
Without the protections of the Voting Rights Act, voters are forced to grapple with discrimination at the polls. This isn’t how it should be, friend, and it’s time for us to put an end to anti-democratic practices like this.
Together, we must demand that Congress take a stand for voters across the country. Please sign the petition to call on Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
Thank you,
Team Delgado
