John,
My story is just one of many examples that Black and brown Americans face every day.
When I was 19 years old, I experienced a racial profiling incident that changed my life forever — and inspired my career in law enforcement and racial justice.
As I was driving home one day, three men with guns got out of an unmarked car. Fearing for the worst, I threw my car into reverse, which prompted one of them to open fire and barely miss me — piercing the driver's side door.
I fought for my life as the men beat and then handcuffed me. This was no carjacking incident — these were undercover police officers mistaking me for a suspect.
I knew something had to change.
Since then, I’ve dedicated 27 years of my career to creating the change I want to see as a law enforcement officer, prosecutor, and now, civil rights attorney. But my fight is only beginning.
Washington needs more leaders in the law enforcement community to shake up the system, bring accountability, and stand up for the little guy. With your support, we can build a grassroots coalition that leaves a lasting impact in South Jersey. Our average contribution is just $24.12. John, will you chip in $24.12 to join our movement? >>>
