Hi John,
We were very saddened to hear about the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. President Trumka was a visionary leader and a tireless advocate for working people, and he will be sorely missed.
President Trumka’s time as President of the AFL-CIO demonstrated the crucial role a powerful, engaged AFL-CIO can play as a key ally in the progressive movement. It was under his leadership that the AFL-CIO formed the unique partnership with us that created a new way of sustainably investing in technology for the progressive movement, technology that has benefited so many activists and organizers. That partnership is the bedrock on which we are built, and President Trumka was instrumental in making movement-owned, movement-built technology infrastructure a reality.
Action Network would not be what it is today without President Trumka’s visionary leadership. All of us at Action Network, and the entire progressive movement, are in his debt.
Still, we know that the labor movement is in good hands. Inspired by his example, we know that Secretary-Treasurer Shuler and the rest of the AFL-CIO leadership will carry on President Trumka’s legacy and expand upon the solid foundation he leaves behind.
Our hearts go out to President Trumka's family and the entire AFL-CIO community.
In Solidarity,
Brian Young
