When Jason and Elizabeth Riddick began considering their options for building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on their Malibu home, they thought their prayers were answered.

It was the perfect solution for the Riddicks, who were trying to find a housing option for Elizabeth’s 82-year-old mother that allowed her to stay close to family while receiving the care she needs for numerous medical issues, including immunodeficiency.

But as Brian Hodges explains, despite California’s recent legislative reforms designed to improve the laws and foster ADU development, Malibu, like many local governments, didn’t care about any of that.

No matter the spin, TJ is heading in the wrong direction with admissions criteria

Fairfax County Public Schools officials made no secret over the past year that, in their view, Thomas Jefferson High School (TJ) has too many Asian-American students, and they changed the admissions policy accordingly.
