While the members of the PA legislature have been home in their districts this month, Pennsylvania has continued to suffer from gun violence every day. This has been a particularly devastating week in Philadelphia, with whole families lost in two separate shootings. Policies we have long been fighting for could have made a difference in protecting these families, yet Harrisburg refuses to recognize the role it must play in making our communities safer. This week, a young woman shot her husband, her two young children and herself with a gun she had purchased just before the shooting. Family and neighbors realized the woman was “distraught.” What if there had been a process in place to legally block her -- at least temporarily -- from buying that gun? The Extreme Risk Protection Order bills sitting in the House and Senate Judiciary Committees would do just that. How much longer do we need to wait?
