How Dem AGs are still defending our right to vote.
Friend, today marks 56 years since the landmark Voting Rights Act was signed into law – but our access to the ballot box is still being threatened by right-wing Republican extremists.
Across the country, the GOP is aggressively pushing new voter suppression bills into law – targeting BIPOC and low-income communities in particular. These radical new restrictions threaten our democracy and the potential for future progress.
Even though the Voting Rights Act outlawed racist, discriminatory voting practices 56 years ago, Democratic Attorneys General are still fighting tooth and nail to preserve everyone’s right to vote.
Just this week, a group of Dem AGs sent a letter to Congress urging them to pass new voting rights legislation.
But that’s not all they’re doing – here’s just a peek at what they’ve done in the past few months:
Sued to expand the number of polling locations in local elections – and won
Fought in court to prevent voters from being removed from voting rolls – and won
Worked with state legislatures to expand the right to vote in states across the country
Demanded Trump’s postmaster general Louis DeJoy stop his continued attempts to delay the mail, including delaying delivery of mail-in ballots
Called out shady Republican “election auditors” planning to taint the integrity of the 2020 election in their states
At every point, Dem AGs have been steady, unswerving champions for our voting rights – and that’s why we need your help to elect more of them.
