Our children are our future. If we don’t make the necessary investments in education today, our children won’t be able to compete in the competitive global economy of tomorrow. We need to increase funding for public education and ensure that public funds don’t go to private schools; and in order to attract the best talent to educate our children, we need to increase teachers’ salaries and give them the tools they need to succeed.

#OnTheTrailWithValdez

It has been a true privilege to travel around the great state of Colorado to visit many of our fine educational institutions. It is important for me to keep a pulse on the educational priorities of our state. Recently, I was able to tour CSU Fort Collins, Mesa State, UNC, and Fort Lewis. Everyone is looking forward to a safe and mindful start to the 2021 semester. These schools value their students' studies, mental and physical health. It is important that we all do our part to keep our students safe and healthy.

Colorado is following CDC’s recommendations for schools.

Updated July 30, 2021, effective August 1, 2021
"Colorado has made tremendous strides in decreasing transmission and deaths from COVID-19, including reaching a 70% vaccination rate among adults 18 and older statewide. In addition, Governor Polis ended the disaster emergency, signaling our transition as a state from crisis to recovery. Yet unvaccinated Coloradans remain vulnerable to new variants, especially the Delta variant, which is far more contagious than previous variants and has more severe health outcomes for younger people."

One last thing! A Century Celebration!

Adams State College is a shining pillar of the San Luis Valley as well as a Hispanic Serving Institute. 73% of teachers and administrators in the SLV graduated from Adams State University. The university has had an $83.5 m positive economic impact on the San Luis Valley.

"Billy Adams, a Colorado legislator who would later become the 25th governor of the state, worked for three decades before obtaining the authorization to found Adams State Normal School in 1921. His goal was to educate teachers for remote, rural areas, such as the San Luis Valley, and teacher education remains an important emphasis for Adams State today."
