When we talk about organizing, there are a few people that always stand out in my mind as the very best of the best. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka was one of them. I was devastated by the news of his passing today.
My heart is with President Trumka’s loved ones, his colleagues, and the entire labor family. It’s hard to begin to put into words what he meant to working men and women in this country. He was their relentless champion, the voice they rarely had in halls of power, their warrior, their advocate, their guiding light.
The AFL-CIO said it best in their statement:
“Standing on Rich’s shoulders, we will pour everything we have into building an economy, society and democracy that lifts up every working family and community.”
Count me in on that mission.
