We learned a short time ago that AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka passed away this morning. This is a huge loss for our entire movement and for workers everywhere.

Please join us in mourning the loss of AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka and extending our condolences to his family and the AFL-CIO team. He was a true champion for working people until the very end. Just yesterday, he appeared via video to send solidarity to the striking UMWA miners of Alabama. In addition to his powerful legacy on workers’ rights and workplace safety, he also presided over a more inclusive and immigrant-friendly house of labor.

At a 2015 campaign launch event, President Trumka said, "The success of the movements for economic, racial, and environmental justice are bound together as one." We couldn't agree more, and we will honor him by continuing the fight for an economy, society and democracy that lifts up everyone and respects the inherent dignity of all workers.
