Dear John,

The abuse started when Lalita (a pseudonym) gave birth to her second baby girl.

When she gave birth to her third child — another girl — Lalita’s husband and family made it clear that they would not help care for the child at all.

Her baby girl died just three months later.

John, in India, women like Lalita have few options. Women are seen as less valuable than men — a burden on their families. Because of that, women face severe discrimination and violence — if they’re even allowed to be born at all.

In India, girls are routinely killed in the womb … simply for being girls.

And in the last thirty years, more than 17.3 million girls have vanished in India due to the common practice of sex-selective abortion.

For years, women in India like Lalita had nowhere to turn for help — no one who would help them save their daughters.

But then generous Ministry Friends like you came along.

Your funding through the ADF Grants and Funding program helped establish the Vanishing Girls campaign to protect India’s most vulnerable.

Through this campaign, our ADF International allies in India are working to:

Build a coalition of active and vocal allies, including lawyers and law students, who are dedicated to the equal dignity of men and women. This coalition is providing training to work toward eliminating discrimination and violence against women.



Eliminate the practice of sex-selective abortion through the effective implementation of India’s Prohibition of Sex Selection Act, which makes it illegal to attempt to determine the sex of a preborn child.

But without your continued support for the Grants and Funding program, none of this would be possible.

Too many grant requests and not enough funds

When generous Ministry Friends like you support the Grants and Funding Program, you make it possible to come alongside more than 3,400 Allied Attorneys who can litigate important cases to victory and fight injustice in the U.S. and around the world.

These Allied Attorneys happily donate their own time and resources to take on many of these cases. But oftentimes, they need the funding provided by an ADF grant to make it happen.



Since the founding of ADF, your support has provided more than 3,300 grants to help defend religious freedom!

But in the last year, grant requests have outpaced our ability to meet them.

In Phoenix, Arizona, grant funding helped secure the right of a church to expand its faith-based school for autistic students. City officials originally denied the church the permit it needed. But with the help of a grant, an Allied Attorney filed suit, citing evidence of officials’ religious hostility. Praise God the city reversed its decision!



In Pakistan, a Christian man was charged with blasphemy for allegedly insulting Islam. Authorities threw the innocent man in jail, and he spent the next five years of his life imprisoned. Thankfully, an Allied Attorney, with the help of a grant funded by generous Ministry Friends like you, was able to secure this man’s acquittal and release!

These are just two stories of victories you made possible. But they are also stories of need — stories of freedoms that might have been lost if not for your support and the work of Allied Attorneys.
