Stunningly, while there are 266 sculptures in the Capitol building commemorating distinguished people in American history, only 14 of these sculptures depict women.
Yes, we’re shocked too. That’s about 5%! But thankfully, lawmakers like Amy Klobuchar are taking action to change that. These lawmakers are hoping to pass legislation that would add two new statues of important women who served on the Supreme Court — Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Adding these women would be a great start, but we hope there are plenty more statues of women to come in the Capitol.
