John, this has been an especially hard week, one we'd been dreading here at Brady.

This week marks two years since one of the most horrific strings of mass shootings in recent history — likely in all of history. Over the course of just one week, shooters in Gilroy, California; Dayton, Ohio; and El Paso, Texas, used military-style assault weapons to kill 35 people. It was a senseless slew of violence, an unspeakable tragedy — and completely preventable.

We know we don't have to live like this — or die like this. New Zealand and Canada banned assault weapons after one mass shooting in each country. Yet here in the U.S., there have been more mass shootings than days this year, and it's still perfectly legal to walk into a store and walk out with a weapon of war.

What’s stopping us from banning these deadly weapons? The NRA and their cronies in Congress. They've spent years blocking legislation to ban assault weapons and profiting off of the devastation that follows. But now, we finally have gun violence prevention champions in office. We finally have the chance to overcome the gun lobby’s deadly agenda. We just have to raise our voices and demand it.

This is your last chance: Our petition is closing at midnight tonight, and we're counting on 32 more signatures from your area. So please, John, will you add your name now to join the call for Congress to finally BAN assault weapons and save lives?

This week also marks the seven-year anniversary of the death of Jim Brady — Brady's namesake. He and his wife Sarah dedicated their lives to passing common-sense gun violence prevention laws that we know can save lives. He'd be so grateful for your voice in this fight — just like I am. Thank you, John.

President, Brady
