Hey there,
We're nearing the 56th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and instead of taking the time to celebrate this landmark legislation, progressives are hard at work fighting against the voter suppression laws sweeping our nation.
On the frontlines of this fight is progressive powerhouse Beto O'Rourke, and he's confident of three things: He knows that these laws, like many voter suppression tactics in the past, target Black and Brown voters, people with disabilities, and rural voters in his home state of Texas. He knows that the Senate can pass a voting bill right now to stop these voter suppression tactics in their tracks. And he knows that we won't stand a chance unless our whole grassroots movement stands together to say enough is enough.
We can't stand by as history repeats itself. The GOP is stripping thousands of people of their rights. Legislators across the country are dismantling our democracy, brick by brick. It's up to us to stand by leaders like Beto who are fighting to protect our voices and our vote.
Beto knows that “failure is not an option” when our democracy is on the line. Last year, 7 million eligible voters in Texas did not participate in the election, and team, that isn't random -- it's a direct result of the awful barriers put up against Texan voters.
