Friend,
I’ll be honest: Here in the Midwest, we like to think we’re largely safe from the climate crisis.
But this summer, the crisis has reached new heights -- and new places. Just last week, smoke from the Canadian wildfires made its way south to Minnesota. It put an acrid stench in the air, dimmed the sun, stung our eyes, and drove us indoors on these late summer days when we most long to be outside.
No matter where we live or where we stand on the political spectrum, the climate crisis touches all of us. So today, I'd like to hear your story. Tell me: How has climate change affected your life? How do you think we should address it as a country?

Millions of people have been living the reality of climate change for years -- and the droughts, heat waves, fires, and floods of this summer are making it real for millions more. In the western United States, heat waves have killed hundreds of people, and wildfire season started months early, putting lives, crops, and homes in peril. In Europe and Asia, catastrophic floods have devastated infrastructure and altered landscapes beyond recognition.
This is a crisis that no one person can solve alone. But just like each of us has contributed to human-caused climate change, each of us can contribute to the solution. That’s why I hope you’ll share your climate story today. Our personal stories can be powerful tools for showing others -- including my colleagues in Congress -- what’s at stake at this pivotal moment for our planet.
If climate change has affected you, please take a minute to tell me about it, so we can continue to progress toward solutions to this crisis together.
Thanks for sharing your story with me. As always, it’s an honor to listen.
With gratitude,
Dean
