Millions of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. deserve a pathway to citizenship.
During the pandemic, roughly 23 million immigrants—including 5 million undocumented people—served as health care workers, public health and safety workers, food system workers and farmworkers. Some are "Dreamers," brought here as children. Others are here legally due to war or natural disasters in their countries of origin—people the Trump administration sought to eject from the U.S. and whose status is still uncertain.
We must create a pathway to citizenship for these fellow Americans without more delay.

Congress has a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of millions of immigrants in the U.S. Each one of these people are Americans. Period. And they must be given the opportunity to become U.S. citizens.
Senator Bernie Sanders, Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, is working to include about $120 billion in his budget proposal to go toward immigration policies including a pathway to citizenship. Using budget rules known as “reconciliation,” these important and just immigrant provisions can pass with a simple majority vote in the Senate.
The American people overwhelmingly agree on this critical issue—by a 75-21% margin, according to a recent Gallup poll. It’s time for Congress to listen to the American people and deliver solutions that reflect both our shared values and our national interests.
This is a fight we can win, but with an evenly divided Senate, we can't afford to lose a single vote. John, can you take 1 minute to send a letter to your representative and senators calling on Congress to include a pathway to citizenship in the budget reconciliation package?
