Hi team,

We’ve made a lot of progress in the fight against flavored e-cigarettes and the rise of teen smoking here in North Carolina. I want to give you a rundown of where we’ve been and where we’re going. 

I sued JUUL more than two years ago for targeting their design and marketing to minors, using lax age verification techniques, and misrepresenting the danger of nicotine to its consumers. 

North Carolina became the first state in the nation to take legal action against JUUL. Since then, Attorneys General around the country have followed suit. 

Then just over a month ago, I announced that North Carolina had reached an agreement with JUUL that required JUUL to pay $40 million to prevent teen smoking and help teens quit and to drastically change the way they do business. North Carolina is now the first state in the nation to have held JUUL accountable. 

There is still more work to be done to protect young people from the huge rise in teenage vaping, and I’m still on the case.
