Dear Friend,
In just a few moments AAI Executive Director Maya Berry will testify in front of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on domestic terrorism and the threat of racially, ethnically, religiously, and politically motivated attacks. This full committee hearing begins at 10:15 AM ET [[link removed]] and comes as our country grapples with a rise in hate crimes and white supremacist violence.
As the only Arab American organization testifying, Maya will outline the experiences we have had with discriminatory counter terrorism policies and hate crimes. At the same time, she will push back against calls for a new federal domestic terrorism statute.
AAI will likely be the sole voice advocating this position today and we are confident in doing so because we know the government has the laws it needs to combat white supremacist violence and prosecute hate crimes. We also know that these types of laws are too often used to securitize entire communities and hinder your First Amendment rights.
This work is only possible because of supporters like you, so thank you.
I hope you’ll watch by clicking here [[link removed]-] if you have a moment. And, if you believe we are right in taking on these issues, please make a contribution below.
Thank you again,
Jim
