This is a serious email about a joke that my opponent Kevin McCarthy made about "hitting" Nancy Pelosi with the Speaker's gavel if Republicans retake the House. I understand if you don't want to read it for whatever reason, but I felt like it was too important not to address.
Any joke about hitting women is unequivocally unacceptable. Every single day, more than 20,000 phone calls are placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Not to mention incidents of violence against women spiked 8% during the pandemic.
Unfortunately, it's classic Kevin to joke like this. In March, he voted against renewing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). He failed to hold Trump accountable for the violence he encouraged on January 6th, or for any of the comments and domestic violence allegations against him while he was president.
Not only is this joke unacceptable, it's further evidence (as if we needed any!) that Kevin is unfit to serve this district, let alone as Speaker of the House.
Look John, if this is how Kevin treats women, especially those who speak their mind -- he has no idea what's coming. That's why I'm running in this race and why I'm confident that we can win the district, improve the lives of women, and get the district the resources we deserve.
