[1]Alessandra Biaggi - Democrat for State Senate

This week, the Attorney General of New York State released information corroborating prior claims that Andrew Cuomo had sexually harassed current and former employees, and attempted to smear one of the women who came forward.

We have had evidence for a long time now that Andrew Cuomo committed sexual harassment in the workplace, but today’s report confirms these allegations, and that his behavior violated federal and state law.

I am, accordingly, renewing my call on the governor to resign. If he refuses, I hope that the New York State Assembly will do its due diligence in the upcoming impeachment hearings to find the truth and do right by the women who were victimized by the governor.

Andrew Cuomo has used his power not just to harass and intimidate women, but to foster a culture of abuse and bullying in his office. And he took advantage of the fact that - given his position as the most powerful person in New York state - it would be very difficult for any woman to come forward with allegations against him, for fear of retribution by his team, potential loss of future job opportunities, and scrutiny by the press.

This is not the first time that the governor has acted with outright contempt for others. You may remember that, after mandating that nursing homes re-admit COVID-positive patients from hospitals, he covered up the resulting number of deaths.

This pattern of disturbing behavior has led me to the conclusion that the governor is unfit to continue to serve, point blank. If he does not resign, he must be impeached.

I want to emphasize that, above all, this is a sad day for our state. As a woman, as a state legislator, and as a survivor of sexual abuse, I am sending strength to the brave women who came forward. I hope that our state Assembly can do right by them in the upcoming impeachment proceedings.

All my best,
Alessandra
