I want to talk to you about my friend Abby Finkenauer, who I'm proud to endorse for Iowa's Senate seat – but first, I hope you'll allow me a moment to explain the stakes of the upcoming election and why we need the grassroots support of people like you.

Our Democratic majorities in Congress right now are as slim as they come. In fact, some of the progress we've made in the House – on protecting voting rights, for example – has been obstructed in the Senate because of Republican use of the filibuster.

So let me be perfectly clear: Progress for our nation – for everyday working families – depends on winning in Iowa and expanding our majorities in Congress. My friend Abby has what it takes to defeat Sen. Grassley and get things done for Iowa. So today, I'm humbly asking you to split a contribution of $5 or more between my campaign and Abby's. Together, Abby and I made history as the first women to represent Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives – but once we were there, it wasn't about making headlines. We fought to give Iowans more opportunities to succeed. We fought for increased access to quality, affordable child care and lower costs for prescription drugs and health care premiums.

Too many long-term incumbents – like our current senator, Chuck Grassley – don't show up for the people anymore. His record as of late is crystal clear: He'll do whatever Mitch McConnell tells him to do – he isn't serving Iowa's working families at all. It's time for new, better leadership. That's why I will do everything I can to support Abby and see her elected to the U.S. Senate.

We can't do this alone, friend. To win in Iowa – to protect our majorities in both chambers of Congress – we need the grassroots investment of supporters like you. It's the only way we can counter the massive sums of money that’ll be pumped into this race by Mitch McConnell’s super PACs and committees.
