John,
The bipartisan Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress took another important step forward in its efforts to make Congress more effective and function better for the American people.
Just last week the House committee issued 20 new recommendations focused on attracting and retaining capable staff, supporting interns and fellows on Capitol Hill, and ensuring equal access to the physical and digital infrastructure of Congress.
These recommendations may not get the same media attention as other issues facing Congress, but they are absolutely crucial to making Congress more responsive to the American people. The House must act on them now.
Add your name to tell the House to pass these recommendations NOW!
This select committee has been doing important work in the last few years. And Issue One has been there on the front lines each and every day.
In 2019 — at the urging of Issue One and other groups — the House leadership established a committee to focus on how to make Congress work better. The House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, originally set to exist for only one year, has proved to be so useful and effective in identifying ways to bring the House into the 21st century that it has now been extended twice and is churning out more important work.
During the last session of Congress, the House passed H.Res. 756, the Moving Our Democracy and Congressional Operations Towards Modernization Resolution, which implemented nearly 30 of the committee’s recommendations.
There’s more work to do, but, with their newest slate of recommendations, the select committee is making exciting progress toward improving Congress.
Tell the House to pass the select committee’s recommendations.
Your support is critical,
Meredith McGehee Executive Director, Issue One
