John --

I wanted to make sure you saw the news that I just introduced another new piece of legislation -- The Biomedical Innovation Expansion Act of 2019.

This bill calls for $10 billion in investments over the next 10 years in biomedical research -- specifically to fund studies on antibiotic resistance and rare diseases.

Under Donald Trump and the previous Republican Congress, critical funding for scientific research has unfortunately taken a back seat. This legislation is about reestablishing the importance of these investments -- not only to improve lives in our country, but to make sure the United States remains a global leader in biomedical innovation.

As you know, San Diego and Orange counties are home to some of the most renowned research institutions in the world. This legislation is an important step in ensuring our community can remain a global leader. Our institutions should never lack the funding they need to carry out this critically important work.

I will keep you updated on the progress of this bill, and I look forward to advocating strongly for its passage in the Senate.

Thanks for your support,

Mike
