Friend, This summer we've seen heat waves, droughts, flooding, wildfires and hurricanes throughout the United States. None of these are new, but the science is clear: Global warming is making extreme weather events more intense and frequent.1 The U.S. Senate is debating a bill right now that could help bring American infrastructure into the 21st century and tackle the climate crisis.2 We need to use this opportunity to invest in clean energy and clean transportation solutions that work for all Americans. The solutions to the climate crisis are at our fingertips. We just need to use them. We can power our homes and buildings with clean, renewable wind and solar energy. We can transition away from polluting cars and get more electric vehicles, buses, trucks and more on our roads. The U.S. Senate has an opportunity to accelerate the shift toward clean energy and clean transportation by passing historic investments in our nation's infrastructure. But as an Exxon lobbyist recently made clear, the oil and gas industry wants to use this opportunity to double down on fossil fuels -- the very things that got us into this mess in the first place.3 We can't let that happen. Call on our U.S. senators to support bold climate action today. Polluting industries will be pushing hard to maintain the status quo. But that's not something we can afford to do. If we don't rapidly reduce global warming emissions, the extreme weather we're seeing today will only continue to get worse. Make your voice heard by taking action today. Sincerely, Rex Wilmouth |
