Action Alert

After weeks of accomplishing nothing due to Democrat quorum-breaking, special session ends this Friday and Governor Greg Abbott has indicated an immediate new special session on the horizon. Texas Values Action is calling for Governor Abbott to keep important issues on the agenda for any future special session and add other critical issues as well.

These important issues include legislation that bans harmful gender modification procedures for children, prohibits biological men and boys from competing in women's sports, keeps tax dollars and government benefits from going to abortion providers and their affiliates, and bans harmful chemical abortion drugs. Texans across the state also support common-sense election integrity reforms, including improvement of mail-in ballot security and eliminating the potential for counties to create inconsistent ad hoc voting procedures; for example, when Harris County officials decided to allow drive-thru voting at the last minute and mail hundreds of ballots without request. Elections in Texas should be easy to vote, but hard to cheat.

Email the Governor’s office and ask his office to include the issues above on any new special session call. Many of these important issues have previously died in the Texas House. We need you to let Speaker Dade Phelan know this is unacceptable. These issues must be passed in the House and Senate!

During the regular session, Representative Valoree Swanson filed HB 1458 that would have corrected the widespread issue of biological men unfairly competing in women’s sports. The bill had broad support in the House with an astonishing 77 co-authors and joint authors signed on. Despite this overwhelming support, it never received a hearing in the House State Affairs Committee.

Senate Bill 29 by Senator Charles Perry was also an option on this issue for the high school level but died in the Texas House. This issue was placed on the July 8th special session agenda by Gov. Abbott and must be placed on the agenda for future special sessions.

HB 1399 by Representative Matt Krause would have prohibited doctors from performing gender transition surgeries and prescribing puberty blockers to children 18 years of age and younger. The bill received a robust hearing in the House Public Health committee. It eventually died after running up against avoidable deadlines.

SB 650 by Senator Donna Campbell and Representative Candy Noble would have closed several loopholes from last session's ban on taxpayer dollars and transactions going to abortion providers. This bill passed the Texas Senate but fell short of passage in the House.

SB 394 by Senator Eddie Lucio would have put in restrictions in place on drugs used in drug-induced abortions, creating a state standard. This bill failed in the Texas House, and Gov. Abbott designated the issue to be on the special session agenda that started on July 8th. It must be placed on the agenda for future special sessions.

We need your help to make sure family values are upheld!  Please email and call your elected officials and politely ask them to include these issues in future special sessions.
