Dear John,
From the inception of the African American Muslim Insight Council, MPAC has worked to ensure that African American Muslim voices are represented and included in their outreach and advocacy and has improved its cultural fluency of the African American community and its historical facts as it works to establish social justice that honors our narratives as a Prophetic community.
Here is some of the progress that MPAC has made in support of this mission:
* Since September 2020, worked to build strategic trust with African American leaders by establishing AAMIC, the first council of its kind, consisting of four African American Muslim professionals that provide MPAC with deeper insight into African American Muslim community and its historical culture.
* Emphasized the importance of centering Black leadership and entrepreneurship within the organization by hiring INKERIJ ([link removed]) for insight advisory, content development, civic engagement, and community organizing.
* During the highest peaks of the pandemic in the summer of 2020, MPAC stood in solidarity with our African American brothers and sisters during the George Floyd protests and offered a statement ([link removed]) of solidarity.
* Continues to support the International Museum of Muslim Cultures ([link removed]) (IMMC) in Jackson, Mississippi, with ongoing virtual programming featuring in-depth discussions about the contributions of African Americans to the fabric of America and an up-close view of the museum's historical exhibits that feature the legacy of African Americans during the civil rights movement and more.
* Built an increasingly diverse board with a greater African American Muslim presence, guiding their policy initiatives towards greater progress.
* Held programming ([link removed]) with African American Christians to engage in interfaith dialogue.
* On MLK Day 2021, MPAC stood together with African American voices and delivered a Message of Solidarity ([link removed]) for health, security, and protection.
* Through its Hollywood Bureau, MPAC is a catalyst to uplift the American Muslim narrative in the movie industry by providing coaches and learning labs for Black Writers.
* Consulted with AFI Conservatory on a movie short for a relevant Muslim portrayal.
* Consulted with the African American Muslim Insight Council to advise on policy addressing White Supremacy and law enforcement reform.
* Our Advisory Councilmember, KH Hamilton, was featured ([link removed]) in the Muslim Journal, a national African American Muslim publication.
* Heard ([link removed]) from important African American voices which emphasized the clear parallels between the African American movements and Palestinian movements for justice.
* Featured ([link removed]) African American voices as speakers during their 2020 Convention.
* Accepted applicants from the Black Muslim community as part of their 2021 Congressional Leadership Development Program (CLDP) cohort.
The African American Muslim community is a stakeholder in Muslim America. Over the years, MPAC has not only worked to strengthen this relationship but has aligned its policy work to support social issues that affect African American communities.
Together we can advance our mission of creating a more inclusive and pluralistic society that is enriched by the contributions of all. If you would like to support the programs at MPAC and help be a benefactor of this great work, you can make a donation today! ([link removed])
