Make an Appointment for Required Immunizations at vaccinate.dc.gov ([link removed])

Mayor Bowser is encouraging families to get back on track with required immunizations, and the District is making it easier for families to get children their required pediatric immunizations before the start of the school year.

Beginning today, Monday, August 2, families can use vaccinate.dc.gov ([link removed]) to make an appointment to get their child’s required immunizations at 37 sites across DC. Families will be able to schedule their children ages 3-18 years-old for their routine childhood vaccinations that are needed to go back to school. Additionally, families will have the option to add on a COVID-19 vaccine at the time of scheduling.

Appointments will be at participating DC Public Schools (DCPS) and public charter school locations, and families can make an appointment regardless of a student’s school of enrollment. Participating school sites will be partnered with pharmacies and hospital-based providers. While many sites will offer walk-up COVID-19 vaccination opportunities, families will be asked to make an appointment for required immunizations so that providers have time to access a child’s immunization history.

Families are reminded that District law and regulations require all schools in the District, including private, parochial, and independent schools, to verify student compliance with immunization requirements as part of enrollment and attendance.

Families are also encouraged to call their child’s doctor now to schedule an appointment for their annual physicals and well child visits.

For more information on required immunizations, visit dchealth.dc.gov/immunizations ([link removed]) .

New Incentives for Youth Who Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Last week, Mayor Bowser also announced new incentives for youth who get vaccinated against COVID-19. Beginning Saturday, August 7, at three sites, young people will have the opportunity to receive a $51 VISA Gift card or, while supplies last, a pair of AirPods. All vaccinated youth will also be eligible to win an iPad or a $25,000 college scholarship. Learn more HERE ([link removed]) .

** Building Blocks DC
------------------------------------------------------------
On Friday, July 30th, Councilmember Trayon White and the Constituent Services Staff attended the Building Blocks DC Grantee Award Ceremony ($5,000.00 and up to $50,000.00).

The D.C. Council’s deliberation over increasing income taxes on wealthy residents for the fiscal year 2021-2022 budget is generating spirited discussion among city leaders.

On July 20, the council voted 8-5 to hike income taxes on District residents making $250,000 a year or more to fund early childhood education for up to three-year-olds, pay for 2,400 housing vouchers and provide monthly basic income for selected families.

Council members Allen, George and Henderson, along with Robert White (D-At Large), Elissa Silverman (I-At Large), Vincent Gray (D-Ward 7), Trayon White (D-Ward 8) and Brianne Nadeau (D-Ward 1) who voted for the tax increase received praise from Jeremiah Lowery, chair of DC for Democracy.
