John,
Thank you to everyone who donated to help us reach our July matching goal! The support we received in July will enable us to continue fighting for a more accountable, equitable government for as long as it takes.
We closed July by filing a criminal complaint about former President Donald Trump’s and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows’ attempts to weaponize the Department of Justice as part of their larger campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. As revealed in recently released internal DOJ emails, Trump and Meadows engaged in a pressure campaign to push federal and state officials to open frivolous voter fraud investigations and file baseless lawsuits in an attempt to overturn several states’ election results. They attempted to coerce high-ranking DOJ officials to advance Trump’s political agenda to reverse the outcome of the election. After we filed our complaint, even more outrageous evidence of Trump’s efforts emerged—he reportedly told then-acting Attorney General Rosen in late December 2020, “just say the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me.”
While the DOJ may believe that a sitting president can’t be indicted, a former president surely can. Trump should be investigated and charged if appropriate. Trump’s efforts to subvert our democratic processes were dangerous, brazen and likely criminal—it’s time for some real accountability.

And because no one is above the law, we started off August by calling for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation, following New York Attorney General Tish James’ announcement that an independent investigation had found that Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women. Cuomo’s tenure as governor has been marked by repeated ethical failures and abuses of power. He has abused his office multiple times for his own personal gain, from using campaign resources to boost his book sales to giving family members and close contacts preferential access to COVID testing. Now an investigation has shown that he created an environment of harassment and retaliation in which his staff was afraid to come forward about abusive conduct. He must resign.
Thank you again for your continued support in this fight,
Noah Bookbinder
