Over the
past five days, brave progressives, led by my colleague Rep. Cori Bush,
protested outside the U.S. Capitol. They called for an extension of the
pandemic-born eviction moratorium. In simple terms: they were protesting
the potential eviction of 11 million Americans.

Today, the Biden administration announced they will be extending the
eviction moratorium in the counties with high rates of COVID-19
transmission.

This
victory is an example of the power of progressive organizing, and in a
moment, I’m going to ask you to help support the expansion of our
progressive movement. But first, let me explain how we got to this point.

The initial eviction moratorium that Congress passed towards the beginning
of the COVID-19 pandemic expired over the weekend – and most of Congress
left Washington without a backup plan – despite the COVID-19 pandemic once
again shutting down cities across the country.

And let’s be blunt: Democratic Party leadership didn’t plan to bring
forward a vote on extending the eviction ban because some moderate
Democrats were opposed to it.

That’s right: 11 million Americans almost faced eviction because of the
power of moderate Democrats in Congress.

This
decision was not only wrong, but immoral.

I have always fought for our progressive values in Congress, and I will
always continue to do what’s right for working folks across this country –
even when that means standing up to leadership and calling out B.S.

Today, we celebrate the victory of this new eviction moratorium. Tomorrow,
we continue the fight.

In solidarity,
