Team,

Last week, Governor Kim Reynolds blamed unvaccinated immigrants entering the U.S. for Iowa’s rising rates of COVID. This kind of cruelty and fear-mongering has regrettably become the norm for GOP leadership in Iowa.

The truth is, Governor Reynolds has expressed zero concern for over a year for the unmasked, unvaccinated Republican legislators putting Iowans at risk. And she has stripped local governments from their freedom to implement COVID safety measures that work for their own communities.

We can read between the lines. Governor Reynolds dehumanizes people and disrespects local elected leaders for political gain.

That’s not the Iowa I know. The Iowa I know has historically welcomed refugee and immigrant children who needed a home. It has been a place where people come together -- no matter what political party -- in times of great challenge, like COVID. We have too much work to do to allow this divisive narrative and these political power plays to get in the way of progress.

We’re building a movement that will bring people together — not pit them against each other. Join me in opposing Gov. Reynolds' callous attacks on immigrants today.
