Texas Republicans to Ban Public Schools Teaching History of White Supremacy: “Legislators Need Their Own History Lesson”

BY CARRIE N. BAKER | Texas’s Senate Bill 3 removes requirements that public schools teach about the history of slavery and white male domination in America. And Texas’s HB 3797, which applies to social studies courses, prohibits teachers from discussing issues that might make students "feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of the individual’s race or sex."

How Congress Can Hold the U.S. Administration Accountable in Afghanistan

BY HANS HOGREFE and SAHANA DHARMAPURI | To date, there seems to be no discernible plan on how to protect vulnerable groups whom the U.S. is leaving behind—most notably, Afghan women and girls, Hazaras, Christians and other religious minorities. No surprise, these Afghan groups feel utterly abandoned.

As military operations are now projected to be concluded by the end of August, binding U.S. law requires our continued engagement in Afghanistan. The U.S. administration has to come up with an answer to the question of how to protect the civilian population in Afghanistan.

California Effort to Increase Number of Women on Corporate Boards Suffers Setback

BY CARRIE N. BAKER | California’s groundbreaking law requiring corporations to have at least one women on their board of directors has quadrupled the number of women on boards. But this progress is now threatened by conservatives alleging “sex-based discrimination.”

“If measures are not taken to proactively increase the numbers of women serving on corporate boards, studies have shown that it will take decades to achieve gender parity among directors.”
