This is urgent, John. Here’s what’s happening:
Last Saturday: Congress failed to extend the eviction moratorium — putting millions of people, especially women of color, at risk of being forcibly removed from their homes.
Then over the weekend: Activists, in particular Black women and women of color including progressive members of Congress like Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Cori Bush (who was herself previously unhoused) slept outside the Capitol to demand urgent action.
So now we at Women's March need to crank up the pressure to demand Congress to reconvene immediately and pass an extension of the eviction moratorium. Will you add your name to our petition and represent xxxxxx so we can show grassroots support from all over the country?
EXTEND THE EVICTION MORATORIUM →
It’s shameful, John. On Friday, Congressmembers turned their backs on millions of people, mostly women, facing eviction in America.
We’re facing an eviction crisis that will disproportionately impact women, especially poor women and women of color. About 73 percent of the 1.4 million renters likely to be evicted are people of color. And 56 percent of the 1.4 million are women.1
Women are the ones who won us a majority in Congress, and we must hold our leaders accountable to their promise to serve the women who elected them.
Especially now, as Delta COVID cases continue to rise across the country, we cannot allow millions of families to be evicted from their homes. Not only is this an eviction crisis, it’s a public health emergency.
We need all hands on deck. Please add your name right now to our petition calling on Congress to reconvene IMMEDIATELY so we can extend the eviction moratorium and prevent millions from being forcibly removed from their homes.
EXTEND THE EVICTION MORATORIUM →
In solidarity,
Women’s March
