Dear John, The time to advocate for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework and the $3.5 trillion Budget Reconciliation Bill is now. For the benefit to the most Americans, it is essential that both bills pass in tandem because the Budget Reconciliation bills fortifies the areas in which the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework falls short. This is especially the case in issues such as paid leave, climate, and agriculture. The Budget Reconciliation Bill would include the most important provisions of President Biden’s American Families Act as well as the House Ways and Means Committee’s Building Economies for Families Act, providing access to universal, comprehensive, and inclusive healthcare, implementation of progressive wage replacement and efficient public administration.
As advocates of sustainability, the Budget Reconciliation Bill also makes large leaps in climate policy. This includes the formation of the Climate Conservation Corps, an initiative aimed at ecosystem conservation and community reparation. The bill would also create a Clean Energy Standard that is far stricter and deviates from natural gas and other fossil fuels. Large agriculture initiatives, which also have a positive impact on mitigating climate change, are also included in the Budget Reconciliation framework. Specifically, $200 billion dollars with consideration of Climate Stewardship Act and Agriculture Resilience Act, would be dedicated to conservation and research for supply chain resilience projects. Also, a sum of money would be dedicated to creating access to clean drinking water as well as low-income water assistance.
Another large climate initiative is funding high-speed rail, allowing for faster and more efficient connections throughout the country. More efficient transport leads to fewer emissions and a greener transportation system. Please join ASBC in advocating for both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework and the Budget Reconciliation Bill by signing this letter to your Senators and Representative.
