10,000 messages needed to protect our public lands.? ? ? ? DRILLING AND MINING ALERT:

The Trump administration wants to open areas of the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and Colorado's wild lands to oil and gas development and mining, which would forever damage these beautiful public spaces and risk the water and health of indigenous and local communities. Send a message to Congress now to fight back against this attack on our lands. ? SIGN NOW [link removed] ? ? ? ? ? Big Polluters could soon be drilling for uranium and oil in some of our most iconic outdoor spaces ? threatening the water of indigenous communities and local ecosystems. Sign now and urge your representative to act ? [link removed]

This is big, friend ? In a few weeks, the House will vote to stop the Trump administration from opening the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and huge tracts of Colorado's wilderness to devastating mining and drilling.

For millennia, indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation communities, have lived in and around the Grand Canyon, and the Pueblo people ? as well as their ancestors, the Chacoan people ? have relied on the Chaco Canyon region for their way of life and cultural heritage. Uranium mining and fossil fuel extraction around these National Parks would tear into land that is sacred to these communities and expose their water supply to toxic pollution. We must support the indigenous communities leading this fight and stop the Trump administration from selling out the Grand Canyon and Chaco Canyon.

We have a short window to act ? I just learned from LCV's policy experts that the House will soon vote on three bills ? the Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act (H.R. 1373), the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act (H.R. 2181), and the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act (H.R. 823) ? that will permanently protect areas around the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and over 200,000 acres of Colorado's wild public lands from extractive development.

This vote is coming up quickly and we still don't know how every member of the House will vote. To pass this bill without any anti-environment riders, LCV supporters like you must make sure your representative knows just how important this fight is for indigenous communities and outdoor enthusiasts all across the country. Can you imagine Big Polluters shredding the iconic Grand Canyon and Chaco Canyon National Parks into open mines as families nearby suffer toxic contamination to their water sources? I can't stand to imagine that reality and that's why I'm working to flood Congress with messages now to stop Trump's sellout.

Families in the Navajo Nation are already dealing with the impacts of existing uranium mining near the Grand Canyon. And Pueblo communities in New Mexico have fought for years to keep extractive drilling and mining out of Chaco Canyon. Allowing more mining and fossil fuel development would result in toxic radiation levels in their water that can lead to lung and bone cancers, as well as destruction of the ecosystems nearby.

Make no mistake: Opening the Grand Canyon and Chaco Canyon to Big Polluters ? just like gutting protections for Bears Ears National Monument and ignoring the concerns of indigenous communities about the Keystone XL pipeline ? is yet another example of the Trump administration's disregard for indigenous rights and sovereignty.

For years we've worked to keep Big Polluters out of the Grand Canyon and Chaco ? and now supporting the Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act (H.R. 1373) and the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act (H.R. 2181) is the best thing we can do to work in solidarity with the indigenous communities that have led the fights to protect their homes and ancestral lands. And as Trump and anti-environment Republicans look to turn Colorado's majestic public lands into a playground for Big Polluters, it's critical we urge our representatives to support the CORE Act that will preserve hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands that are the backbone of Colorado's thriving outdoor recreation economy.

These bills are moving fast and we have less than two weeks to make sure that we hold the line and keep anti-environment riders out of these critical bills. In these final days, every person that sends a message to Congress can help. We can't do this without you, friend ? please send a message to your representative today.

Contact Congress to protect the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and Colorado's public lands for generations to come. GOAL: 10,000 messages by 10/21 ? [link removed]
