David Daley's investigative report in Slate revealed how ALEC trained conservative legislators on the art of gerrymandering.

David Daley -- author of "Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn't Count" -- exposed leaked audio from an ALEC conference that documented their efforts to teach conservative legislators how to get away with gerrymandering.

It's going to take a big grassroots army -- and a lot of financial support -- to fight back against the work of Koch-affiliated ALEC and their special interest network. We've got the plan and team to do it, but we need your help.

In the leaked audio, Thomas Farr, the architect of voter suppression in North Carolina, told legislators there is no such thing as a nonpartisan redistricting process. We know that fair maps are possible. That's what we're fighting for. In some states that means independent redistricting commissions. In others, that means holding elected officials accountable when drawing maps.

As David Daley reported in his exposé, 59 million Americans live in states where at least one chamber of the state legislature is controlled by the party that won fewer votes in 2018 -- and in EVERY case, Republicans drew those lines.

Farr urged lawmakers to make their redistricting processes appear as open as possible, even though they are driven by partisanship behind closed doors. We need to build a strong grassroots presence that will hold these elected officials accountable every step of the redistricting process.

ALEC is committed to manipulating maps to further obstruct progress on issues like gun violence prevention, environmental protection, voting rights, and immigration reform -- and if they're able to manipulate the maps, they will work to dismantle progress for the next decade. We need to build a grassroots movement to fight for fair maps and stop them in their tracks. Can we count on your support?
