[1]Tell the Senate: Recess can wait, democracy can't.

People For Member,

While right-wing senators have delayed action in Congress to protect the
freedom to vote for every eligible American, far-right state legislators
have worked hard to suppress voting rights. Eighteen states have passed 30
laws to restrict the vote in the past six months alone.^[1]

The Senate must not let this stand.

Passing the For the People Act (S. 1) is our best chance to prevent these
laws from taking full effect and stop new ones from being passed.

But every day we inch closer to a very real deadline to pass the For the
People Act: If the Senate does not overcome the filibuster and pass S. 1
within the next two weeks, states will not have enough time to implement
the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm elections, meaning
that these restrictive laws could keep millions of people from voting.

The Senate is due to leave for its August recess any day now – but we
can’t let them do that.

The fact is that a significant majority of Americans support the voting
rights provisions in the For the People Act,^[ [link removed] ] so it’s long past time
that the Senate gets on board. We need your help right now to show the
Senate how much support there is for Congress to stay in session until
they pass the For the People Act – including ending the filibuster to do
it. We have no time to waste.

Please help us during this week of action by doing these three things to
support the For the People Act:

 1. [2]Sign this petition to urge Majority Leader Schumer to keep the
Senate in session until they end the filibuster and pass S. 1. >>
 2. [ [link removed] ]Call your senators today to make sure they hear your support. >>
 3. [ [link removed] ]Share this Facebook post urging everyone to call the Senate in
support of S. 1 (or ask a friend to share it for you). >>

The Senate must not leave for their August congressional recess without
passing the For the People Act, even if that means delaying recess. Their
recess can wait – our democracy can’t.

Thank you for all that you do,

Ben Jealous, President
