A truly shocking number of races in Illinois are uncontested — often more than 50% in any given year. “Elected” officials all over the state gain and retain office purely by default, without ever having to campaign.
You can help change that. By running for office, you help keep democracy vibrant and competitive. The skills you and your staff learn and the connections you build can also serve future campaigns, whether you’re serving as a candidate or in a staff/advisory role.
The Green Party offers a platform and a widely-known name for progressive candidates who uphold our Ten Key Values. We work closely with our candidates to help them run competitive campaigns — even in the face of Illinois laws that unfairly burden independent and alternative party candidates.
