Dear friends,

This summer has been absolutely remarkable- as most Alaskan summers are. I hope you have been able to enjoy your summer! This month, many of you will see your children and/or grandchildren begin school. I am wishing you and yours a great school year! Additionally, I look forward to seeing you next month at the community council meetings.
Third Special Session

After a request from the Legislature, Governor Dunleavy has agreed to delay the start of the Third Special Session until August 16th after the original date of August 2nd. The topic of the special session includes:

  • The proposed constitutional amendment (SJR 6, HJR 7) to constitutionalize the PFD and the Power Cost Equalization program
  • Constitutional Amendment to establish an appropriation limit (HJR 6/ SJR 5)
  • Appropriations of federal relief funds, including ARPA funds
  • Potential measures to increase state revenues
Comprehensive Fiscal Plan Working Group

The creation of the working group was part of the deal struck in June between the House Majority Coalition and the House Republicans to avert a government shutdown. The role of the working group is to develop a fiscal plan that will be considered during the Third Special Session later this month. The group has 2 members from both the Majority and Minority caucuses in the House and Senate. Alongside the following, I serve as the alternate member:

  • Senator Hughes
  • Senator Hoffman
  • Senator Kawasaki
  • Senator Kiehl
  • Representative Schrage
  • Representative Kreiss-Tomkins
  • Representative Carpenter
  • Representative McCabe

Last week, the group was able to hear from constituents in Wasilla, Fairbanks, and Anchorage. This week, the group will hear from constituents in Juneau. If you are interested in providing your thoughts to the working group and haven't had the opportunity, consider sending an email to members of the working group. The email addresses for members can be found on the akleg.gov website.
