Team,
First, we'd like to say thank you for helping us reach our July digital fundraising goals. Because of your support we've been able to put this campaign in a great position to outmatch Andy Harris the rest of the summer.
Before we share the news on a big endorsement that Dave received recently, we're hoping you can chip in to help us continue our strong momentum. Can you donate $5 or $10 to give Dave a big boost in August?
Endorsement from Tarence Bailey, relative of Frederick Douglass
The life of a nation is secure only while the nation is honest, truthful, and virtuous.
~ Frederick Douglass
I grew up right here in the Hill Community of Easton, Maryland in the shadow of my great uncle Frederick Douglass, five generations before me.
Frederick Douglass inspired and challenged us. We are a stronger nation because Frederick Douglass believed in a better America, a more just society, and a country that could and should lift up all of its children.
Through the generations, my family has continued to serve our nation. I am an Afghanistan Operation Enduring Freedom veteran. My father was drafted into the Vietnam War, and there are a few purple hearts in our immediate family history.
I know the Eastern Shore. The Chesapeake region is home to diverse communities. We are black, brown, and white, Democrats and Republicans, lifelong district residents and newcomers, business owners, clergy, tradespeople, teachers, and combat veterans like me. The Eastern Shore has a long, complex history - but it also has a potentially exciting future.
This future begins when Andy Harris is no longer our representative in Congress.
This January, Andy Harris attempted to walk into the Nation's Capital with a loaded handgun. Then when he was caught he tried to irresponsibly hand it off to someone else. He acted no differently than a common crook looking to evade arrest.
We ask this guy to defend us on the Shore? This is Trash Behavior! He's got to go!
I’m not the only one who thinks Andy Harris is a problem. Folks on the Eastern Shore may not agree about much, but we do know that Andy Harris is no longer fit to serve in Congress. Andy Harris divides us, preys on our differences, and desperately clings to power instead of building a better future for our kids and grandkids.
I support Dave Harden for Congress. He can give new hope to this District. He grew up on a farm near Westminster and has deep family roots on the Eastern Shore in Rock Hall. He understands our people, our culture, our faith, and our community. He has served our country, representing America in some of the most sensitive and dangerous posts in the world. He gets along with people of multiple and even conflicting viewpoints and brings them together.
Most importantly, Dave believes that we need an economy that works for everyone including the forgotten, rural communities right here in Talbot County and throughout the First District. Our nation must build the infrastructure, provide education and training opportunities, invest in new technologies, and protect and preserve our natural resources so Maryland families can prosper in the decades ahead.
Dave and I also agree that our veterans need better health care, easier access, and a commitment to respect their service to the nation. I would love to see a VA hospital right here in Easton. Dave will advocate for this hospital while always supporting our veterans with dignity, respect, and fierce determination.
Beginning with Frederick Douglass and during times of historic crisis, my family pushed our leaders to make our nation better for all of its people. I intend to do the same - and this is why I endorse Dave Harden as the next member of Congress from Maryland’s First District.
Sincerely,
Tarence Bailey
