I have some scary news to share, friend.

Our team has been closely following a federal gun safety case, and the court just made a devastating decision: They ruled it's unconstitutional to ban 18- to 20-year-olds from buying handguns – which means more teenagers will have easy access to deadly weapons.

Even worse, this ruling could imperil age restrictions on gun sales across the U.S. – including in Florida. Right now, Floridians must be 21 years old to buy a handgun, but this law could force our state to lower the age to 18, opening up handgun sales to high school students.

It should be commonsense: In the country with the most deadly school shootings and an unstoppable rise in gun violence, a high schooler shouldn't be able to easily purchase a weapon. But the NRA has wormed its way so deeply into our politics that even sensible restrictions like these are struck down.

It's clearer now more than ever that our government isn't going to take the necessary action to protect our children and communities from gun violence unless we demand it. We've got to fight back against the NRA and all those who stand in the way of our lifesaving movement – before the next tragedy strikes.
