To create a future rooted in liberation, we must remember where we’ve been, and Black August is the perfect time to do so.  

Black communities have rich—but often lesser known—histories of creating our own media to mobilize our communities in the face of violence and oppression.

As part of our efforts to reflect on our collective history, MediaJustice is proud to sponsor the BlackStar Film Festival to lift up stories that represent our movement for justice, and spotlight our fight to be the tellers of our own stories.  

Liberation can’t exist without storytellers and our stories of Black lived experiences continue to thrive most when shared on our own terms outside of the white gaze. 

Join us at BlackStar Film Festival from August 4–8 to hear stories for us, by us and enjoy 80 films from Black, brown, and Indigenous filmmakers.
