The Gift of Self: Motherhood
You’ve probably heard the term “fly-over state.” It’s a term used to describe the states between the coasts. In D.C. “fly-over state” isn’t necessarily a good thing. They are deemed less worthy of importance simply because they’re not as flashy as the states on the coasts. They have less money, less people, and are usually less liberal.

But have you heard of “fly-over women?” According to Carrie Gress, a prolific anti-feminist contributor:

Fly-over women are the moms and daughters and wives and sisters and friends the media overlooks because they are religious or frumpy or don’t have sexy day jobs. They are considered uneducated doormats. Their bodies are often tired, hair not always perfectly coiffed, and nails rarely manicured. Their homes may not be camera-ready, their meals probably aren’t gourmet, and talking points aren’t ready on their tongues. But mostly, the issue is that they don’t believe in abortion and they do believe in the sanctity of marriage.

These unseen and unknown women are the fly-over women found in every American city and state. They’ve been called bigots, lectured to, condescended to, and ignored by those who consider themselves morally superior.”

Chances are you know a woman who fits this description! And, just like fly-over states, she’s often diminished by our culture. At Eagle Forum, we know that it is these “fly-over women” that are keeping our society alive by fostering truth in their homes.

In this week’s episode of Engage with Eagle Forum, hosts Kirsten Hasler and Tabitha Walter interview Carrie Gress to talk more about the plight of the “fly-over woman.” Gress provides invaluable insight and wisdom into how to counter the feminist lie that tells women they will find happiness if they put marriage and children on hold.

Gress is a Fellow at Ethics and Public Policy Center. A mother of five, she has a doctorate in philosophy from the Catholic University of America and is the author of several books, including “The Anti-Mary Exposed: Rescuing the Culture from Toxic Femininity," and "Theology of Home." She is the editor of the online women's magazine Theologyofhome.com.

However, the women who find themselves longing for family later in life or trying to balance everything at once have a different story to tell. Author Carrie Gress joins us to talk about feminism's lies, how to counter them, and how to find joy in motherhood.
