Silver medal for Nottingham weightlifter

Fantastic to hear that Emily Campbell from Bulwell has won silver at the Olympics in Tokyo today. What an amazing achievement for the 27-year-old, who has been helped on her way by local people including stall holders at Bulwell Market. I?m sure they, like everyone in Nottingham, will be really proud of Emily, after she lifted an incredible 161kg to earn her medal ? making her the first British female to win an Olympic weightlifting medal. Congratulations to a home-grown record breaker!

How Nottingham is building homes to meet the needs of a diverse and growing city

Contrary to the popular misconception that the only housing development underway in Nottingham is student accommodation, there is a wide variety of housing types to suit a whole range of needs. As a landlord, housing provider and planning authority, the City Council has a significant role to play in providing and approving housing which is suitable for families, older people, professionals, couples, single people, and students ? aiming for environmentally sustainable housing wherever possible.

From council and affordable housing, to private residential developments to buy or rent, hundreds of new homes are being built all over the city to meet these needs. Nottingham needs over 1,000 new quality homes of all types each year over the next decade. There are a number of developments underway or in the pipeline which help us towards this target.

Most disadvantaged people in the city to benefit from ?3.5m award

Money Banner

It?s great news that Nottingham has been awarded over ?3.5m from the Changing Futures programme, funded by Government and The National Lottery Community Fund. It will be used to support people facing homelessness, those suffering with mental health issues, people with a history of alcohol or substance abuse, victims of domestic abuse and individuals looking to rebuild their lives after a criminal conviction.

As a city with the 8th highest prevalence of multiple disadvantage in England, such funding is vital and it?s a great example of partnership working to secure it, involving the Nottingham City Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), the City Council, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Opportunity Nottingham, with input from service users.
