John,

Senator Lindsey Graham (SC) is now using the looming debt ceiling debate as an opportunity to demand the creation of special committees to “reform” Social Security and Medicare. Of course, “reform” is just a code word for “cut.

Instead of passing legislation that prevents a government shutdown and enables our government to pay for the spending that Congress has already approved, “entitlement reformers” like Senator Graham and others want to once again resurrect the dreaded “TRUST Act” and use it to exact severe cuts to your earned benefits in exchange for allowing our government to fulfill its financial obligations.

Please support the National Committee’s urgent advocacy efforts on your behalf to defeat the “TRUST Act” — and any bill that would use Social Security and Medicare to pay down budget deficits — by making a most generous donation of $12, $9 or $5 today!

Senator Graham along with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell now appear willing to risk a default on our government’s financial obligations which would among many other disastrous consequences result in Social Security benefit checks being delayed for weeks, or possibly longer. This is not an acceptable outcome for older Americans who depend on their earned benefits just to make ends meet!

That’s why we are counting on your help to prevent Social Security and Medicare from being used as negotiating pawns in the current debt negotiations in Congress!

John, our success in protecting your earned benefits lies in the participation of our more than one million members and supporters — and frankly, each and every dollar counts. Please make one urgent donation today to help us convince lawmakers to pass vital legislation now pending in Congress that would improve the health and financial security of millions of older Americans.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
