The Fight for a Hunger Free America this August

During his stop in Albany, Georgia, Joel spoke to Demetrius and Sherrell about the importance of nutrition education and coalition building to end hunger in Georgia.
HFA CEO Joel Berg has so far driven more than 7,000 miles and visited anti-hunger organizations in 24 states. This month, he continues the Journey to End Hunger and will be visiting partners and meeting with elected officials in California, Washington State, Idaho, Colorado, Missouri, Utah, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to hear more updates from Joel and hunger fighters across the country.
This month, in partnership with our Associates Council, we've launched our first-ever virtual walk-a-thon! Sign up online and commit to walk 10 miles, wherever and whenever you'd like during the month of August. We've chosen to set 10 miles as our walk-a-thon goal because Americans living in food deserts must travel as many as 10 miles to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Nearly 40 million Americans live in a food desert. At Hunger Free America, we're working to change that by advocating for the policies needed to make sure ALL Americans have access to adequate nutrition.

If you raise more than $100 in our walk-a-thon, you'll be automatically entered to win one of three prizes from Queen Majesty Hot Sauce! Sign up here.
The Closing the Meal Gap Act would increase the food purchasing power of SNAP by 30 percent – a huge difference for those that rely on the program to meet their monthly nutritional needs. Help us advocate for better access to nutritious food by calling on your members of Congress to support the Closing the Meal Gap Act and adding your name to our petition.
Rebekah Moon, a Summer AmeriCorps VISTA member, is serving with FISH Community Food Bank in Ellensburg, Washington as part of Hunger Free America's Summer VISTA Program. Rebekah helps the food bank organize donations and ensures they're ready for distribution to families facing food insecurity. We're so grateful for our VISTA members who are working every day to improve their cities and making sure everyone in need receives assistance.
Virtual Volunteer Opportunity in Dallas
HFA's Strategic Volunteerism team is recruiting a Public Relations Volunteer who can help Crossroads Community Services, a nonprofit located in Dallas. Joel had the opportunity to visit Crossroads last week on his Journey to End Hunger (pictured above). To learn more, email Erika at [email protected].
