** Summer Update 2021

As I write this I am celebrating the removal of Operation Brock from the M20. It was put on as a precautionary measure in case there was a surge of holiday traffic that would cause long delays at Dover and the Tunnel. I always thought this was unlikely, and this proved to be the case, so the two weeks of inconvenience was unnecessary. I will be urging the authorities to draw the lessons from this, and not be too hasty in future in reinstating Brock.

This year I am running my latest survey in which you can tell me your views about both national and local issues. These responses will help me frame my responses to the many issues that I know will affect us in the post-pandemic world. The survey will be available until August 31^st and I will publish the results as soon as I have them all.

For those of you following my social media accounts, you would have seen that I have published alongside the research body Public Policy Projects called ‘The Future of Social Care: Turning Rhetoric into Reality’. To read the full report follow this link: [link removed].


Within this report, we address an issue that successive British governments have pledged to sort out for the last 25 years, which is to fix the social care system urgently. As we witnessed in the early weeks of the pandemic, the social care system needs to be reformed in order to avoid such tragedy in the future. Therefore the report goes further than just addressing the funding issue, we also discuss dealing with the issues of infrastructure and innovation in order to create a system which is fit for all. I hope the Prime Minister follows the recommendations set out in this report when he makes his announcement to reform the system later this month.
