Welcome to Monday, August 2nd, spicy and milds...

Senators unveiled a nearly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package Sunday night.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act ([link removed]) came in at around 2,700 pages, and senators could begin amending it soon.

"We know that this has been a long and sometimes difficult process, but we are proud this evening to announce this legislation," said Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) a lead negotiator.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) said the final product will be "great for the American people."

Among the major new investments in the bipartisan package:
* $110 billion for roads and bridges
* $39 billion for public transit
* $66 billion for rail
* $55 billion for water and wastewater infrastructure
* Billions for airports, ports, broadband internet, and electric vehicle charging stations

** Federal Eviction Moratorium Fails
------------------------------------------------------------

The House of Representatives adjourned for its August recess on Friday after Democrats failed to muster a majority in support of legislation extending the federal moratorium on evictions that expired Saturday.

The federal eviction moratorium was initially established by the enactment of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act ([link removed]) in March 2020 and expired in July 2020. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) implemented a new moratorium in September 2020 that was extended through January 2021 and was then extended three more times through March, June, and July.
