The Biden administration announced on Monday that it would begin fast-tracking deportations of migrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border through a process known as expedited removal. ACROSS THE NATION
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched a new app called CBP One that uses facial-recognition GPS location technologies and can potentially be used to monitor and track immigrants in the country. CBP One’s use of this technology raises concerns regarding potential impacts on immigrants' civil rights and liberties. While CBP has published some information about the app, these publicly available documents are scattered, and the extent to which the agency plans to use the app in the future remain unclear.
The American Immigration Council submitted a FOIA request to CBP, asking for records relating to CBP One and its features.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed state troopers on Wednesday to stop and seize any vehicle suspected of transporting migrants and return it to a port of entry, increasing state enforcement on immigration.
“That’s unheard of and it's blatantly unconstitutional. This threatens and disrupts months of coordination” from groups helping migrant families not get stuck in border communities.
– Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, policy analyst at the American Immigration Council
